The Mario's 4 Emotions are the emotions living in Mario's head. They are actually Boos that when they illuminate, they trigger an emotion for Mario. There's the red Boo which is Mario's Anger Emotion, the purple Boo which is Mario's Hunger Emotion, the green Boo which is Mario's Smartness Emotion, and the yellow Boo which is Mario's Gayness Emotion. At some point, they were replaced by Teletubbies of the same colors to mess up Mario's head. After something triggered there, the Teletubbies left and ran back to Drill Finger's Fortress and the Boos were restored. The Teletubbies are battled in Drill Finger's Fortress and are mainly the first to be encountered. They're pretty tough but are easily beaten.
